Dear Sirs,
I saw your ad on the Internet. Our 3 yr old daughter has GERD as well as a lung disease. We are wondering if you have any of your reflux pillows that would fit a very small 3yr old. Our daughter is too old to be strapped down all night. Any help you can give us concerning this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,

Tony and Jennifer

This was an e-mail we received on July 2, 2004, from the parents of a young girl named Julia. Inspired to help this young girl, we began researching, designing, testing, and producing a new pillow for toddlers that suffer from GERD and Acid Reflux Disease. After a couple of weeks, we came up with the Comfort Lift Pillow® ComfyLiftBed™ (Patent Pending). Shortly afterwards, we received the following reports:

... Julia had her movie on in the room. A few minutes later I told my husband it was too quiet in there she must be up to something. I was right......but not in the way I had expected.....she had crawled up into the pillow and pulled her blankets up around her and fell asleep...

... Thought I would share the fact that for the first time since Julia has been sick she slept in her own bed...

... Julia is doing very well at this time... The last pH probe test showed no significant reflux!!! Hurray!!! No more Prevacid. Tony and I both think the wedge pillow/bed is a major factor in that...

...Any parent I hear from with a child suffering GERD I tell about the pillow bed. It works plain and simple, and I tell them since using the pillow she has been off all medicines for reflux. Many are surprised how something so simple works so well. I can not thank you enough for making such a positive change in our daughter's health... April 6, 2007

Comfort Lift Pillow® ComfyLiftBed™

We were happy to help! We also discovered many interesting facts while researching sleep disorders and children.

With regard to Acid Reflux, we reviewed a study by Jacinta M. Tobin, Phillip McCloud, and Donald J. S. Cameron entitled "Posture and Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux: A Case for Left Lateral Positioning." Their studied found that sleeping position does have a role in the frequency of reflux episodes. Children that sleep on their backs are more likely to have more episodes and more severe reflux symptoms. Children that sleep on their stomach or left side have a lower frequency of episodes. However, it is not recommended that children sleep on their stomach due to concerns about SIDS. The ideal sleeping position is for the child to sleep on his or her left side, and our ComfyLiftBed™ is well suited for this purpose. The side barriers make excellent cushions for a child to lean up against while sleeping on his or her side. The study also noted that young children with poor control of their upper bodies will negate the effects of sleeping on an incline by slumping to one side. This poor posturing causes increased pressure on the child's midsection, thus increasing the likelihood of reflux.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has written that children who have frequent snoring, loud or noisy breathing, and/or sleep apnea scored lower on intelligence, memory, and standard cognitive tests than other children their age. The research also showed behavioral problems resulting from sleep disorders.

These studies raised concerns in two areas. The first, as mentioned above, has to do with breathing disorders that result in a lower supply of oxygen to the brain. A person's brain does not fully develop until late childhood, and breathing disorders deprive the brain of the oxygen necessary to maximize brain functions.

The second area has to do with loss of sleep in general. Constant lack of quality sleep, similar to cases like Julia's were a child experiences repeated waking due to Acid Reflux symptoms, significantly reduces cognitive abilities. NIH studies showed that loss of just a few hours of sleep a night each day for a week have effects similar to going without sleep for three consecutive days. Under these cirumstances a person feels normal, but his or her cognitive abilities are impaired causing slower reaction times and a diminished ability to multi-task (maintain a train of thought while performing an action).

Making sure your children are properly rested is a MUST if you wish to ensure healthy mental development. With the Comfort Lift Pillow® ComfyLiftBed™ (Patent Pending), you can help your child maintain proper sleep positioning to alleviate GERD and Acid Reflux symptoms. Acid reflux symptoms are now being diagnosed and treated more often in children (Study by Cheryl Ridder no longer available online ). We are also conducting studies to determine whether or not the Comfort Lift Pillow® ComfyLiftBed™ (Patent Pending) alleviates the many sleep-related breathing disorders that our other products are effective in treating.

The head-wedge elevation was uniquely designed with a counter-foot-wedge that holds the child in place all night. The Comfort Lift Pillow® ComfyLiftBed™ (Patent Pending) is designed with the growing child in mind, using a foot-adjusting feature to account for growth of the child. This feature makes the Comfort Lift Pillow® ComfyLiftBed™ (Patent Pending) a long-term form of treatment for your child's sleep-related disorders.

New Testimonials
"Your bed is a gift from God."

...Our son Luke is now 11 months old and has been suffering from acid reflux since he was born. He has been diagnosed failure to thrive and was 9 lbs 12.5 oz when he was born. He is only 18 lbs 5 oz now.

...I came across the ad for your comfort lift pillow bed on a website and decided to order the bed in hopes that we would not have to put him back on any medication. Mr. Rubio, your bed design is a life saver for Luke and our whole family. The first night we put him to sleep he slept for 8 hours straight...

...We thank the Good Lord above for answering our prayers. We are so thankful to you for this bed design. No matter how he turns around in bed he is still elevated and is sleeping comfortably and it is no longer a struggle to put him to sleep. We showed our pediatrician the bed from the flyer and she posted it in her office to show her other patients because she knows how hard it has been for us...

Sincerely,

Eric and Elaine Goodrich

"I wish I could come hug all of you!"

...We purchased your pillow within the past month and you've saved our lives. My son Adam is 14 months old and suffers from: Failure to thrive, Severe Anthropophagi Reflux, and Severe Gastro esophageal Reflux...

...He absolutely amazed us! From night 1 he puts himself to bed. Unbelievable!! He sleeps ALL night, in an "uphill" position, and then during the day when he's had enough with playing he simply crawls in his room and climbs right in and is asleep in 2 minutes...

...I honestly hadn't slept more than 2-3 hours a night since March until your miraculous bed came. That's 2 1/2 months-now. I and my four year old can get 7-8 hours of completely uninterrupted sleep. As for Adam he sleeps usually 10 hours and the pump never alarms because he's so comfortable and not having the GERD pain because of the design of the bed. Oh I could run through the streets screaming with joy. I've emailed pictures of him in the bed to so many people just bragging about it...

Sincerely,

Melanie LaVoie

The ComfyLiftBed™ is designed to have an elevated head rest that raises the upper body of the sleeper. This elevation will keep stomach acid out of the esophagus, as well as assist in breathing. We have also included a 3" wedge to prop the top portion of the pillow up higher in cases where children have more severe symptoms or require higher elevation. Since children tend to roll off of the side of the pillow, a side barrier on each side of the pillow has been added along with mini-wedges in each side to create a concave design that will cradle the child in the center of the pillow. Many sleepers will slide down the pillow as well. To correct this, foot rests have been added. Higher elevation (all 3) foot rests are for younger children. As the child grows, the foot rest wedges may be removed to allow the child to stretch out, therefore providing a more comfortable sleeping position. The ComfyLiftBed™ will be sold with waterproof pad covers for younger children.

Advantages of the ComfyLiftBed™

  • There is no need to strap down your child. Your child is able to move freely and change sleeping positions for natural, restful sleep.
  • You child does not slide off of the elevated mattress. The built-in counter-leg support allows all-night elevated positioning.
  • It is the only available Toddler Bed designed to help with sleep disorders, Acid Reflux, and respiratory difficulties in the Nation!
  • With comfort in mind, the ComfyLiftBed™ is constructed using the most advanced materials to ensure maximum comfort for your child.
  • The ComfyLiftBed™ is easy to install in a crib or left free standing on the floor.

NOTE: Depending on the depth of your child's crib, removal of the crib's mattress is necessary when used with infants. We also recommend the use of a Crib Tent (pictured below) or similar device to ensure that your child cannot fall out of his or her crib.

Additionally, special care must be made to protect the bottom of the ComfyLiftBed™ if it is placed directly on a crib's spring mattress-holder, such as placing cardboard beneath the pillow to prevent damage to the foam pillow or pillow cover.

If your child is of crawling/walking age and you are not using a Crib Tent, we recommend that the ComfyLiftBed™ be placed as close to the floor as possible.Adam in his bed.

Please note that we did not include price in our comparison. This exclusion was made for several reasons. The most pertinent reason for the exclusion is that it is our firm belief that the value of good health should never be expressed in monetary terms. The comparison above should be ample evidence that our product is not similar to other products, nor are their products similar to ours. The products described above are only tools to help your child sleep well at night, and they all have their distinct advantages and disadvantages.

We want all of the parents that visit our site to recognize the total value of the product that we offer. The net value of anything is the benefits it provides less its costs. A child that sleeps well without interruption due to discomfort or symptoms of medical conditions will be a more energetic and healthy child. The child's parents will benefit because they too will receive a better night's rest.

Example of 15lb baby in ComfyLiftBed™

Healthier children translate into fewer trips to the doctor's office and a need for fewer medications in the future. These benefits reduce the future costs of missed time at work and prescription or OTC medications. If you are the parent of a child whose doctor thinks that he or she will outgrow Acid Reflux Disease, it is not practical for you to purchase our pillow that is designed for use over a long period of time. If your child has reflux symptoms related to other conditions that will require long-term treatment, it will be more beneficial to buy a product such as ours that will help your child for a longer period of time. It is our hope that parents will make their choice of sleep aids based upon the benefits they hope to receive, not the monetary cost of the sleep aid. While the monetary cost should be a short-term consideration, it should never outweigh the benefit of good health.

Our mission here is to help the most helpless among us - the children. All children deserve the highest quality of life and healthcare possible. We offer the ComfyLiftBed™ as a functional aid. Its purpose is to relieve acid reflux symptoms while your child sleeps. It is not a cure by itself, but a part of the overall treatment for reflux.
